Project: The formation and properties of giant Dipole-moment Rydberg atom in crossed fields

Chief Specialist: Prof. Hongping Liu

Introduction: The project intends to reveal the physical mechanisms of the giant dipole-moment Rydberg atom formation in crossed fields theoretically and experimentally, and explore the detection methods and the quantum controlling of the system. The researches include: 1) To develop the spectral calculation program for hydrogen atom in crossed fields, based on which we can study the electron wavefunction and the dipole moment properties; 2) Employing the quantum defect orbit technique, to investigate the quantum defect effect of non-hydrogen atom and its spectrum on highly excited states; 3) To find a way to detect the giant dipole moment experimentally; 4) To experimentally observe the giant dipole moment Rydberg atom; 5) To theoretically and experimentally explore the quantum controlling of the giant dipole moment Rydberg atoms in crossed fields.
