ISCAP-I 2004

Author: Update time: 2012-03-01

The first International Symposium on Cold Atom Physics (ISCAP-I) was held on Aug. 21-25, 2003 at Lushan*, Jiangxi Province, China. The symposium was organized by the Center for Cold Atom Physics (CCAP)** of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and sponsored by CAS, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the Chinese Physical Society.

* Lushan is a beautiful Mountain located near Jiujiang and Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi Province. It is an ideal summer resort. A possible travel route is “Beijing – (air) - Wuhan – (coach 3 hours) - Lushan – (train or air) – Shanghai”.

** The CCAP/CAS has two sites: Wuhan site and Shanghai site. The Wuhan site is based at the State Key Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance and Atomic and Molecular Physics, Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM), CAS. The Shanghai site is relied on the Key Laboratory of Quantum Optics, Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOFM), CAS. The CCAP will hold the ISCAP in every odd year from 2003.

The Symposium bringed together scientists around the world in the field of cold atom physics and relevant subjects in atomic and molecular and optical physics, and to provided a forum for communication and discussions on the progress in the following aspects:

  • Bose-Einstein condensation
  • Laser cooling and trapping of atoms, ions and molecules
  • Quantum coherence and quantum optics
  • Atom optics and matter-wave interferometers
  • Quantum information
  • Atomic frequency standards
  • Laser spectroscopy and precision measurements
  • lOther applications with cold atoms
  • lNew theory and new techniques for atomic and molecular physics research

The scientific program included invited review lectures on specific fields and contributed reports on recent experimental and theoretical progress. All talks were oral. About 40 minutes each invited talk and 20 minutes for a contributed talk.
