International symposium on metabonomics in translational medicine (ISMTM-2014) was successfully held at Fudan University, Shanghai during May 19-20, 2014. This meeting is jointly organized by the CAS Key Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance in Biological Systems at Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM) and State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering at Fudan University.
The meeting aimed at bringing together international experts in the related areas to discuss how the advanced metabonomics technology can be translated to clinical applications to improve patient prognosis, in particular in cancer patients. The topic of the meeting includes role of signaling factor in resistance to cancer therapies, metabolites modulate intracellular signaling, regulation of cancer metabolism, Nanotechnology-enabled novel antitumor strategies, advanced techniques for systems metabolomic analysis, role of metabonomics in discovery new metabolic pathways, surgical metabonomics and NMR based screening in clinical research and PreScreening. During the meeting, a round table discussion was also held to identify future areas of collaboration on cancer research and possible source of funding.
More than 80 participants were attended the meeting. The participants included the experts and scholars from domestic and overseas, who have being engaged in the field of metabonomics, translational medicine and related fields. The speakers are from Imperial College London, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, National Center of Nanoscience and Technology, Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (CAS) and Bruker Company. Other participants are from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Agilent Technologies, Fudan University, Shanghai Ocean University, West China College of Stomatology (Sichuan University), The Second Military Medical University, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (CAS), Tongji University, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics(CAS), Shandong University, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Science, Ningbo University, High and New Technology Research Center of Henan Academy of Sciences, Xiangya Hospital Central South University, East China University of Science and Technology, respectively.
