On November 9, 2012, Oleg S. Vasyutinskii, who is leading scientist of the Ioffe Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, visited Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics (WIPM, CAS), and gave a wonderful lecture to the teachers and students of the institute. The lecture was entitled “Angular momentum polarization in photodissociation”.
Prof. Vasiutinskii prefaced his lecture with a brief introduction of the famous Ioffe Institute. He then introduced the mathematical form of the angular distribution during photo dissociation, discussed possibility in all amplitudes and phases of the scattering matrix in different reaction channels. Prof. Vasiutinskii also described rotational depolarization of the symmetric top molecules and future research directions.
After the lecture, Prof. Vasiutinskii and his assistant Irina Semenova visited the molecular spectra and dynamics laboratory. And then they discussed about two hours with researchers and graduate students in the group of molecular spectra and dynamics. Both two sides hope to exchanging researchers in the near future for better bilateral academic exchanges.
Prof. Vasiutinskii’s research interests are in processes of interaction between matter and radiation as well as in interaction and dynamics of the atomic, molecular, and cluster particles in the microscopic (nanometer) scale, in particular in dynamics of molecular photodissociation, reaction dynamics, and multiphoton spectroscopy. He is the Fellow of Institute of Physics (U.K.), Correspondent-Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Member of the Editorial Broad of the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry.
