Recently, the International Committee Meeting and Symposium of the Asian Laser Center was held in the city of Gwangju, Korea, on November 4-6,2010. Professor In Won Lee, Director of the Advanced Photonics Research Institute (APRI), Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), invited Professor Jin Wang from WIPM to attend the conference and give a talk as a committee member. At the conference, Professor Wang gave a detailed presentation on the progress of atomic and molecular physics at WIPM.
The Asian Laser Center, initiated in 2008 by APRI, intends to promote international collaboration among Asian countries in optical science and technology. The center will foster various collaborations including the exchange of scientists and students and the performance of joint research projects. The member states of the Asian Laser Center include Korea, China, Russia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The center has built a large ultra-short quantum pulse apparatus and also has successful experiments involving ultra-short laser pulses, laser processing, laser spectroscopy, and quantum optics.
After much discussion during the meeting at APRI, Professor Wang and Professor Lee have come to an agreement about future cooperation .WIPM and APRI will cooperate with each other on exchange visits, training graduate students, and holding summer schools.
